Council Grove Residents Pick Up “King”-Sized
Cash Prize
TOPEKA, KAN. – The day after Christmas, David and Nickie Helton of Council Grove traveled to Oklahoma to visit family for the holidays. The usually tiresome trip turned out to be very exciting after the Helton’s stopped at a convenience store in Americus. David purchased four $10 King’s Cash instant scratch tickets, winning a $10,000 cash prize on the second ticket Nickie scratched!
“I had $45 worth of winning tickets I decided to cash in for four $10 tickets,” explained David. “While I was driving, Nickie scratched the tickets.”
When Nickie revealed a $10,000 cash prize on the second ticket she scratched, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
“I was stunned when I saw we had won $10,000,” said Nickie. “I didn’t think it was real. I thought it was one of those fake tickets that you see.”
After David pulled over, the couple soon realized their ticket wasn’t fake, and they had won the cash prize.
“We were so excited,” said David. “It was shocking to find out we had won $10,000. When we called our family, they didn’t believe us until they saw the ticket.”
The Heltons, who have been married 12 years, have three children. They plan to use their winnings as a down payment on a new home.
The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s General Store 1405, located at 404 Main St. in Americus.
